This Privacy Policy describes how Ad Blocker Unlimited (the “Extension”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you install and use the Extension. By installing and using the Extension, you accept the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the Extension.
What the Extension does
Ad Blocker Unlimited is a browser extension that blocks advertisements and other unwanted content on web pages you visit. Filtering is performed locally in your browser using static rule lists bundled with the Extension and the browser’s native declarativeNetRequest engine. The Extension does not require an account, does not require you to sign in, and does not collect your name, email address, or payment information. The limited technical and usage data we do collect is described in full below.
Information we collect
Page content (processed locally only). To detect and hide ads, the Extension’s content script reads the URL and DOM of pages you visit and applies filter rules to them. This processing happens entirely inside your browser. Page content, full URLs, form data, keystrokes, and your browsing history are not transmitted to us or to any third party by the Extension.
Local settings. The Extension uses your browser’s local storage to remember your preferences (such as whether the Extension is enabled, per-site allowlist entries, and counters of blocked items). This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Installation identifier. When the Extension is first installed, our server generates a random installation identifier (iid) and the Extension stores it on your device. This identifier is not derived from your identity, your device, or your browsing; it is a random value used to count active installations and to associate the usage statistics described below with a single installation. It is included in the Extension’s requests to our server (update checks, usage statistics, and the uninstall ping).
Install, update, and uninstall pings. When the Extension is installed, updated, or uninstalled, the Extension contacts our server at adblockerunlimited.com so that we can count installations and uninstallations and deliver updated filter lists. These requests include the installation identifier, the Extension’s store ID and version, and aggregate counters (the total number of ads blocked and the number of searches during which the Extension was active), as well as standard technical information that any web request exposes (such as your IP address, browser type and version, and operating system).
Usage statistics. Approximately every four hours, the Extension sends usage statistics to adblockerunlimited.com/stats/, linked to the installation identifier. These statistics consist of: (i) the number of ads blocked per website domain (for example, that a certain number of ads were blocked on example.com — the domain name only, never the full URL or page content), and (ii) timestamps of visits to search engine results pages (the time of the visit only, never your search terms). We use this data to measure how well our filter lists perform across websites and to improve blocking quality.
Support correspondence. If you choose to contact us at the address below, we will receive the information you provide (such as your email address and the content of your message). We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry and to improve our support. We do not use it for marketing.
How we use your data
We use the data described above exclusively to: (i) count installations, updates, and uninstallations of the Extension; (ii) deliver updated filter lists and configuration to your installation; (iii) measure, in aggregate, how effectively ads are blocked across websites so that we can maintain and improve the filter lists; and (iv) respond to support requests. We do not use this data for advertising or marketing, we do not build profiles of users, and we do not attempt to identify you.
How we store your data
Your settings, allowlist, filter lists, counters, and the installation identifier are stored locally on your device using the browser’s extension storage and remain there until you change them, clear your browser data, or uninstall the Extension. The telemetry described above (installation identifier, version, aggregate counters, per-domain blocked-ad counts, and search timestamps) is stored on servers operated for us by standard hosting providers, protected by access controls and industry-standard security measures.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data collected by the Extension, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. The only recipients of data are the hosting and infrastructure providers that operate our servers; they act on our behalf, under contract, and only process the data described above as necessary to deliver the service. We may also disclose data if required to do so by law or to protect our legal rights.
Permissions and why we need them
The Extension requests the following browser permissions strictly to provide its ad-blocking functionality:
host_permissions / <all_urls>, activeTab: required to apply filter rules and cosmetic filters to the pages you load.
declarativeNetRequest, webRequest: required so the browser can block requests to known ad servers using the Extension’s bundled rule lists.
scripting: required to inject the cosmetic filtering script that hides ad elements on the page.
storage, unlimitedStorage: required to save your settings and the allowlist on your device.
alarms: required to schedule periodic maintenance tasks such as filter list refreshes.
Cookies
The Extension itself does not set cookies. Websites you visit may continue to set their own cookies subject to their own practices.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: (i) performance of the agreement between you and us, in order to deliver the Extension you have chosen to install; (ii) our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the Extension and in counting installs and uninstalls in aggregate; and (iii) compliance with legal obligations where applicable.
International transfers
The limited technical data described above may be processed in countries other than the one in which you reside. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers outside the EEA.
Data retention
Local settings and the installation identifier remain on your device until you change them, clear your browser data, or uninstall the Extension. Server-side telemetry (install, uninstall, and usage statistics linked to an installation identifier) is retained for no longer than 12 months, after which it is deleted or aggregated so that it can no longer be associated with an installation. Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to handle your request and to address any related follow-up.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. The Extension does not maintain user accounts and does not link the data it sends to your name or identity; the data is keyed only to the random installation identifier described above. Uninstalling the Extension and clearing its local storage removes all locally stored data and stops all collection. To request deletion of the server-side data associated with your installation identifier (visible to us at the time of your request), or for any other request, please contact us using the address below and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures with respect to the limited data the Extension transmits. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date shown above indicates the most recent revision. Continued use of the Extension after a revision becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
